It pays to stay organized...

I finally cleaned the pantry today. My kitchen is small with minimal storage. Yet I manage to cram an extra fridge and freezer into it to increase capacity. The pantry behind the big fridge was out of control. It's no longer for food storage. I kid you not, I found at least 15 Trader Joes bags reusable and paper, a roll of paper towels, half a gallon of Tequila, paper plates, Solo cups and so on. Absolutely ridiculous and embarrassing! There were also expired things that may or may not be used. So I am ridiculous, embarrassed and wasteful. There will be a lot of rice on the menu in the next week or so.

I'm a firm believer in having the food where you can see it. I no longer feel the need to be stocked up on something just because it's on sale. Out of sight is out of mind for me and I end up with too much because I forget I have it. Couple that with a 2 person household, usually cooking for 3 at the most, I just don't need the extra stuff. I'd much rather spend a little more money shopping more frequently than throwing things away and having them go to waste.

I've also taken to shopping at AmazonFresh now that they are delivering to me at home. I can have recipes handy and only buy what I need. Yes, it's a little more costly, but worth it in time and space saved. Over stuffed cupboards of food that doesn't get eaten is a waste. I also use Dream Dinners for quick and delicious dinners on busy week nights. It's nice to have a little help. I'd rather cook something I prepped and froze last month instead of getting fast food.

No baking or cooking today. I am extremely happy to have the pantry cleaned out of food and being used for large appliances like the KitchenAid Stand Mixer, food processor, blender etc.

I hope you're having a great Saturday. I think I'll take the rest of the day off.
